Size: 700ML
Proof: 92 (46%ABV)
Origin: Scotland
Distillery: Dailuaine
Distilled at Dailuaine in 2011, this single malt was matured until 2022, including a finishing period in a first-fill oloroso sherry butt. Independently bottled by Wilson & Morgan, this is a deliciously fruity Speysider.
Nose: Zesty marmalade and fresh orchard fruits aplenty, with biscuity malt and toasted oak.
Palate: More sweet citrus, with a touch of bitter pith in tow, honeyed nuts, and sultanas follow with a balance of creamy malt and drying oak.
Finish: A touch of tobacco towards the finish, with silky caramel and chocolate raisins balancing prickles of root ginger.
In 1852, William Mackenzie founded Dailuaine Distillery. Dailuaine derives from the Scottish Gaelic An dail uaine meaning green valley, named most probably for those elegant undulations of the Spey valley in which the Dailuaine whisky distillery lies.William had also been a farmer who worked in the Carron area. Following his death in 1865, William Mackenzies wife leased the distillery to a banker from Aberlour called James Fleming, who, with Williams son, formed Mackenzie and Company in 1879. Five years later an extensive rebuild commenced, leaving the distillery as one of Scotlands largest. Another five years on and Charles Doig built Scotlands first pagoda roof, which graced the distillery until it collapsed in 1917 after a menacing conflagration desecrated the buildings.
