Quinta de Foz de Arouce is located in the municipality of Lous, in the Beiras region. It is surrounded by the foothills of the Serra da Lous and Penela and is bathed by the Arouce and Ceira rivers, where the former flows. The old documents existing in the house refer to the properties as belonging to the family since the 16th century. XVIII, knowing that some dependencies are older, as the primitive house was twice consumed by fire. The chapel adjacent to the house was founded by a Pontifical Brief of Pope Benedict XIII on 24-08-1724. The cultivation of vines has been known in this place since the Visigoth occupations of the Peninsula, as attested by several legends that say that King Arunce kept wine, among other precious goods, in his Lous castle. Wine production at the Quinta blends with the history and demarcation of the property, being today, like the wine cellar, the only one known in the region. At Quinta de Foz de Arouce, like other Casas in Beira, the vineyard and the wine produced at that time, acquired a complementary role, together with other crops such as fruit or animal production, only for consumption at home. It was in the 1970s that Joo Filipe Osrio de Meneses Pitta, upon inheriting this property, discovered the potential of the vineyards, which, over 40 years old, produced wines of indisputable quality. In the 1980s, Joo Portugal Ramos joined the family through his marriage to his daughter Teresa, becoming consultant and Oenologist for the house. It introduces greater rigor in viticultural management and handling and greater control in winemaking. Fermentation of whites begins in barrels, and similarly to reds, aging is also done in barrels.
