It is only a matter of time before the world comes to fully embrace the magnitude and relevance of the Colla family in the cultural and historical fabric of the Langhe, as theyve truly helped set the stage for todays more lifted and elegant expression of Barolo and Barbaresco. Its difficult to write about Poderi Colla, only in that I fear that I might no do their story justice. The Colla family is one of the most important wine growing families in our entire roster of more than one hundred growers that we are privileged to represent. Not enough wine drinkers in the world, let alone in Italy, really know the Collas wines and their deep-rooted family history as tastemakers in the Langhes famous Barolo and Barbaresco wine regions. The wines produced include: Nebbiolo dAlba produced with grapes from the famous Cascina Drago, which borders Barbaresco north of Alba; Barbera dAlba Costa Bruna is produced from grapes from a vineyard planted, in part, around 1930; the renowned Bricco del Drago is the only Italian table wine to have received the status of geographical indication by presidential decree in 1987; the Roncaglie vineyard in Barbaresco was already mentioned as a place of exceptional quality in the monograph by Lorenzo Fantini of 1880; while Barolo Bussia Dardi Le Rose, in 1961, was the first Barolo to proudly bear the name of the area of origin on the label, the first cru in the entire history of the area. An extraordinary tradition, whose continuity was ensured by the arrival of Tino Collas son, Pietro, together with Federica.
