Reviews:
Feudo Maccari is an Italian wine producer located on the island of Sicily. Maccari produces a collection of wines sourced from native Sicilian varieties like Grillo and Nero d’Avola as well as some international varieties from vines ranging from 30 to 60 years old. The 50 hectare (123 acre) estate is located on the southern tip of the island. Here, cool prevailling winds from the Mediterranean help to moderate the hot climate. There are 50 separate plots of vineyard land on south-facing hillsides near the town of Noto. The Olli and Family and Friends are sourced from here which are two white wines of the same vineyard, aged in steel and oak barrels respectively. The second estate, Contrada Santo Spirito di Passopisciaro is a 14ha (34.5 acre) further inland where an altitude of 700 meters (2296 feet) above sea level provides an ideal microclimate for viticulture. A significant diurnal temperature variation between day and night allows for grapes to ripen to full phenolic maturity without compromising acidity. A duo of Animardente Etna Rosso and Bianco DOC are sourced from this estate. The estate was established in 2000 by Antonio Moretti, who also owns the Tuscan estates Tenuta Sette Ponti and Poggio al Lupo.
