        Reviews:

        • Wine Advocate: Always a blend of fruit from the Barossa and Eden Valleys, Torbreck’s 2019 The Struie is almost entirely Barossa Valley, with only 8% coming from the Eden Valley. Aged in 20% new French oak for 20 months, it’s very dark in the glass, with aromas of pencil shavings, blueberries and baking spices. Full-bodied and even more intense than the impressive 2018, it remains supple and smooth from start to finish, where hints of licorice and warmth emphasize the wine’s ripeness.
        • Wine Spectator: This focuses on a mix of red and black fruit flavors that are juicy and bold, with maraschino cherry, blueberry and huckleberry flavors at the core, showing accents of Asian five-spice, espresso, dried ginger, oregano and cedar on the firm finish. Drink now.

        Producer Information

Torbreck, founded in 1994 by David Powell, is situated at Marananga on the western ridge of the Barossa. Since that time he has produced some of the world’s finest ‘Rhone varietal’ wines, exclusively from Barossa fruit; this has been acknowledged by the wine press in Europe, America and Australia. The overwhelming majority of his vines are dry-grown, nearly all are 80 – 125 years old and are tended and harvested by hand. The wines have an extraordinary combination of power, intesity, complexity and great finesse, and bearing in mind the age of the vines and the laughably low yields, no Torbreck wine could ever be accused of being heavy, cloying or over-extracted.
