A tremendous single malt from Tomatin, distilled in 1988 and matured for 32 years in a single American hogshead cask by independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail. After that lengthy rest, the cask was opened in March 2021, yielding an outturn of 145 bottles, released for the Connoisseurs Choice series.

Nose: Aromas of Lemon peel and Poached pears give way to orange marmalade. Vanilla pod comes to the fore alongside red apple and soft charred oak.

Palate: Rich citrus zest and soft banana notes complement sweet honey. Toasted hazelnuts develop, accompanied by milk chocolate and brown sugar.

Finish: A medium-bodied finish with lingering notes of baked apples, subtle white pepper and mature oak.

Distillery Information

Founded in 1897, the Tomatin whisky distillery sits at an altitude of 313m just to the west of the village of the same name and quenches its annual five million litre capacity with the pure waters of the Allt-na-Frithe. Closing briefly at the beginning of the 20th century, Tomatin experienced good fortunes and during the 1950s began increasing its stills, installing the last in 1974, bringing its total to an impressive 23, although 11 were dismantled in 2002.
